Hello, as you know my name is Jim Barrett. I am a husband and father of four children, two grandchildren, as well as the owner of Road Scholar Transport, a trucking company based in the Scranton, PA area. My business is transportation of goods from one place to another, but when it comes to transporting myself I like to go fast, really fast.
I am pretty much the ultimate speed freak. I am into anything that goes fast, sportscars, auto racing, jets, powerboats, motorcycles and more! I collect cars of all kinds. If you have time, check out my photo gallery.
In addition to just having fun and driving fast, I am a business person. I realized the power the American dream over 35 years ago when I began washing trucks after school at the age of 16. I worked my way through college and obtained a position in sales at the same company for which I had worked for since the age of 16. I worked my way up to VP of sales before I finally left that company to start Roadscholar in 1988.
My wife Debra and I started Roadscholar in 1988. I leased a used tractor-trailer and served as the sole driver for the company while Debra acted as dispatcher. Today, 16 years after Road Scholar hauled its first piece freight, Debra and I employ approximately 95 drivers out of 4 different terminals, own 80 tractors, 350 trailers and additionally employ 10 owner operators.
I am not trying to toot my own horn. I just want everyone to understand that America is the greatest country on God’s green Earth. If I can find success through hard work and determination then we all can. Follow your dreams, never give up or make excuses and above all, bust your ass and your hard work will be rewarded.
